Philip Pullman

Philip Pullman was born in Norwich, UK, in 1946. He has written nearly twenty books, most of which are aimed at young readers, though they are also popular with adults. He first gained recognition for his Sally Lockhart quartet, but it was his His Dark Materials trilogy that brought him worldwide fame. The first volume, Northern Lights, was published in 1995 and won the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction Award. It was followed by the second volume, The Subtle Knife, in 1997, and the trilogy concluded in 2000 with The Amber Spyglass. The film adaptation of the first book premiered in December 2007.
