Fifty years after the first contact with the ancient theocratic civilization of the Össeans, humans are still struggling to come to terms with their mentality. The balance of power is shifting. Össean religious fanaticism is creeping into secular human society—a society much like our own, lacking defense mechanisms against grand ideologies, and thus reacting with either xenophobia or, conversely, devout, ostentatious hospitality and hypocritical multiculturalism…

Mycelium is the story of a man who believes he is immune to all illusions. He laughs at fanaticism. He relies on his own perspective. He is one of the few who truly spots the danger—but he fails to realize that he only sees it because he has delved too deep into the world of Össe himself. Caught in the web of the Össean Church's secret plans, he fights a desperate final battle: not against the Össeans, but against himself—for the remnants of his own humanity.
